Japanese Toasted Sesame Seed Oil

Crafted from high quality sesame seeds, slowly roasted at low temperature and pressed in small batches in Japan in the traditional style. A bold, deeply aromatic finishing oil that brings authentic depth and warmth to your kitchen — a small drizzle delivers an intensity of flavor that most oils require far more volume to achieve.

Production — Product of Japan. High quality sesame seeds roasted slowly under low temperature, then pressed in small batches in the traditional Japanese style — a process that transforms a mild seed oil into a deeply aromatic, richly flavored finishing oil.

Flavor Profile — Rich, nutty, and deeply aromatic with a warm, toasted character that is immediately recognizable. The nuttiness is full and rounded rather than sharp, with a smooth, savory depth and a long, warm finish.

Allergen Information — Contains sesame seeds. Please handle and store accordingly.

Available Sizes — 60 mL · 200 mL · 375 mL · 750 mL

Type — Pure toasted sesame seed oil — Japanese finishing oil

Sesame oil has been a cornerstone of Asian cooking for thousands of years. Japanese Toasted Sesame Seed Oil delivers a genuinely interesting nutritional profile alongside its extraordinary flavor.

Heart-Healthy Fats — Sesame oil is rich in polyunsaturated and monounsaturated fatty acids, particularly oleic acid and linoleic acid — the same type of fats that make the Mediterranean diet a foundation of heart-healthy eating.

Antioxidant-Rich — Toasted sesame oil is rich in sesamol and sesaminol, antioxidant compounds unique to sesame that form during the toasting process.

Rich in Lignans — Sesamin and sesamolin are lignans found almost exclusively in sesame, contributing to this oil's distinctive antioxidant profile.

The composition of toasted sesame:

  • Sesamin & sesamolin — lignans found almost exclusively in sesame
  • Sesamol — an antioxidant compound formed during the toasting process
  • Vitamin E — sesame oil is a source of tocopherols
  • Zinc — sesame seeds are naturally rich in this trace mineral
  • Calcium & magnesium — minerals naturally present in sesame
  • Phytosterols — sesame oil naturally contains plant sterols

100% pure toasted sesame seed oil. Contains sesame seeds. No artificial flavors, additives, or preservatives.

On the palate

Japanese Toasted Sesame Seed Oil announces itself the moment the bottle is opened — a deep, warm, intensely nutty aroma that is immediately evocative of Asian kitchens and the particular richness that only well-toasted sesame achieves. On the palate, the nuttiness is full, rounded, and immediately satisfying, with a caramelized warmth from the toasting process. A smooth, savory depth runs through the mid-palate, and the finish is long and warm. The intensity is real — a teaspoon has the presence of a tablespoon of most other oils.

This is the oil that makes you taste the difference between good Asian cooking and great Asian cooking.

The story behind the toast

Sesame is one of humanity's oldest cultivated crops, pressed for its oil since ancient times across Asia, Africa, and the Middle East. In Japanese cooking, the distinction between raw and toasted sesame oil is fundamental — raw sesame oil is mild and suitable for cooking, while toasted sesame oil is an entirely different product: an intensely aromatic finishing oil whose character is created entirely in the toasting process.

Our oil is made from high quality sesame seeds, roasted slowly under low temperature and then pressed in small batches in Japan in the traditional style. Carefully controlled heat caramelizes the seeds' natural sugars, transforming a mild seed oil into a deeply complex, aromatic one.

Caring for your bottle

  • Store in a cool, dark place away from direct sunlight and heat
  • Refrigeration is recommended after opening for maximum shelf life — sesame oil is higher in polyunsaturated fats than olive oil and more susceptible to oxidation once opened
  • Best by 4 months, use by 12 months from date on UPC label
  • Always use as a finishing oil — never cook with toasted sesame oil at high heat, as the compounds responsible for its signature aroma are destroyed by sustained heat
  • A teaspoon is often sufficient — this oil is intensely concentrated
  • Contains sesame seeds — store and handle accordingly if sesame allergies are a concern in your household
  • Seal firmly after each use to prevent oxidation and preserve the toasted aroma

Fresh toasted sesame oil should smell deep, warm, and intensely nutty. If the nuttiness fades or it smells flat or slightly rancid, it's past its prime — time for a new bottle.

What does Japanese Toasted Sesame Oil taste like?

Intensely nutty, warm, and deeply aromatic with a slightly smoky richness. Dark amber in color, cold-pressed from carefully toasted sesame seeds for maximum flavor depth.

Should I cook with Toasted Sesame Oil or use it for finishing?

Always use it as a finishing oil. Add it at the very end of cooking — the toasted sesame aroma and flavor are delicate and dissipate with heat. A few drops over a finished dish delivers the full effect.

What dishes pair best with Japanese Toasted Sesame Oil?

Stir-fries, ramen, rice bowls, noodles, edamame, cucumber salad, sushi, dipping sauces, Asian-style dressings, sesame ginger marinades, fried eggs, and avocado toast.

How is toasted sesame oil different from regular sesame oil?

Regular sesame oil is pressed from raw seeds and has a much lighter, more neutral flavor. Toasted sesame oil is pressed from seeds that have been carefully roasted first, creating the deeply nutty, dark, aromatic character that defines Japanese and Korean cooking.

Is it vegan and gluten-free?

Yes. Cold-pressed toasted sesame seeds only. Vegan, gluten-free, and free from artificial additives.
